A drop score is a policy where the lowest score among a set of assignments or exams is excluded from the grade calculation, allowing for minor setbacks. Read extra details at grade calculator.

Make learning more fun – Sometimes students underperform because they have simply lost the motivation to learn. It’s not surprising, when the pressure of exams and doing well at school takes away the enjoyment of learning. It’s easy to get so focused on achieving top grades that you forget that learning can actually be fun – and not only that, but it’s much easier to do well when you’re enjoying it. If studying has become a chore for you, it’s time to put the fun back into learning. You could do this by gamifying your studies, or by trying some of the ideas in our article on 15 ways to make studying less stressful.

You need to have a productive environment to study in. Your study environment should be free of distractions, so turn off your cell phone, clear your desk, and ask your friends or family member to respect your space. In general, it’s best to keep your study area consistent from day-to-day, but it’s okay to change things up while you’re figuring out what works best for you. Mix up how you see, hear, and process what you’re studying. When you’re tackling something new, for instance, you might start by reading the chapter to yourself, then read it again out loud. Then, you might follow that by writing a summary of the text or creating flash cards. That way, your brain can process the information in a variety of different ways, and it might be easier for you to remember it.

In 1785, students at Yale were ranked based on “optimi” being the highest rank, followed by second optimi, inferiore (lower), and pejores (worse). At William and Mary, students were ranked as either No. 1, or No. 2, where No. 1 represented students that were first in their class, while No. 2 represented those who were “orderly, correct and attentive.” Meanwhile at Harvard, students were graded based on a numerical system from 1-200 (except for math and philosophy where 1-100 was used). Later, shortly after 1883, Harvard used a system of “Classes” where students were either Class I, II, III, IV, or V, with V representing a failing grade. All of these examples show the subjective, arbitrary, and inconsistent nature with which different institutions graded their students, demonstrating the need for a more standardized, albeit equally arbitrary grading system.

The Grade Calculator is a simple and free helpful tool to help you as a student have a better understanding of your current standing in class and what is needed to maintain or improve your grades throughout the academic year. Also new for the 2024 school year, are three additional calculator tools, the GPA Calculator, the Final Grade Calculator, and the Monthly Expense Calculator to help you stay on top of your educational costs and manage your monthly expenses.

Ways to Improve Your Grades in 2024

Earn the effort points – Teachers often have assignments that are based on effort. Sometimes these are homework assignments or participation points. Whenever a teacher is willing to give points for effort, make sure to put in the effort and get those points. Complete the homework assignments. Participate in class. These points are within your control. Effort grades should always be 100%. Do the work, and you will start to see improvements in your grade.
